MATCH REPORT | NORTHANTS V NOTTS

Skipper Alex Wakely hit a classy century for Northamptonshire against Nottinghamshire on the club's pre-season tour to Barbados on Friday.

Wakely's 105 off 111 balls - including three sixes and ten fours - boosted the Steelbacks to 269 for eight from their 50 overs at Windward CC.

But a strong Notts batting line-up passed that total to register a six-wicket win with 5.4 overs to spare.

Northamptonshire lost Josh Cobb and Rob Newton early after winning the toss and choosing to bat first - but Wakely and Rob Keogh, who contributed 53 from 68 deliveries, added 110 for the third wicket to revive the innings.

Adam Rossington (22) and Steven Crook (25) also weighed in with handy runs, and after Wakely perished at 224 for five it was left to Miles Richardson and Ben Sanderson to inject a final flourish in the closing overs.

For Notts, Jack Blatherwick (3-56) and Jake Libby (3-34) took the bowling honours.

Northamptonshire then struck early when Muhammad Azharullah removed the dangerous Michael Lumb for 17, but Riki Wessels (67), Greg Smith (32) and Samit Patel (73) were all in good form before Libby's undefeated 53 saw his side home at 272 for four.

Sanderson (7-0-30-1) and Saif Zaib (7-0-32-1) proved the most economical of the County's bowlers.

Northamptonshire's programme in Barbados continues on Saturday with a T20 fixture against Cardiff MCCU.
