MATCH REPORT | NORTHAMPTONSHIRE V LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY

Josh Cobb and Adam Rossington led the way as Northamptonshire overcame Loughborough University in their opening 50-over match on the club's pre-season tour in Barbados.

Chasing a victory target of 268 at Windward CC, the Steelbacks got home by five wickets with nearly six overs to spare.

Cobb led the way with 79 from 67 balls, including five sixes and seven fours.  He shared an opening stand of 89 with loan signing Max Holden (29)  before Rossington and Rob Newton took over.

Their fifth-wicket partnership worth 122 settled the issue - Newton reaching 50 off as many deliveries and Rossington there at the end, 78 not out.

Earlier, Ben Sanderson was the pick of the County's bowlers with 3-42 from nine overs as the students totalled 267-7 after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Skipper Alex Wakely used a seven-man attack with Sanderson's new-ball partner Nathan Buck also on target, conceding 29 runs in eight tidy overs.

Holden (2-34), newcomer Gareth Wade (1-55) and Saif Zaib (1-56) were among the wickets as Loughborough posted a handy total.
