Rob Newton has signed a new two-year deal at NCCC

Opening Batsman Rob Newton has signed a new two-year deal at Northamptonshire, committing him to the Club until the end of the 2019 season.

The Academy graduate was first spotted by Northamptonshire’s Head Coach, David Ripley at the tender age of 12: "I'm delighted to see Rob sign a new deal, he is an Academy graduate and now an experienced capped player. He has become a banker in Championship but has also added a lot to his white ball cricket with a very strong 50 over campaign this year"

In 11 County Championship appearances for the club in 2016, the 27-year-old amassed an impressive total of 827 runs, with a high score of 202* against Leicestershire, averaging 48.64 including 3 tons and 2 half centuries.

The opener has been in great form this season across all formats, scoring a total of 643 championship runs in 8 appearances, the highest of which was his 166 against Loughborough University. Newts also carried his good form into the Royal London One Day Cup campaign, where he scored 226 runs in 6 appearances.

The Batsman spoke of his delight at signing a new contract, adding: “I’ve been here since I was 13 so it’s great to be able to continue my career with Northants.

“We are a strong, tight knit squad and I’m keen to do my bit to help us push for promotion in the County Championship and hopefully win another white ball trophy”.
