HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STEELEY!

Northamptonshire and England legend David Steele celebrated his 75th birthday this week - and best wishes go to him from everyone at Wantage Road as well as all County supporters.

David made his debut for Northamptonshire back in 1963 and went on to make exactly 500 appearances in first-class cricket - including eight Tests for England in 1975 and 1976.

He was famously voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in '75 for his heroic performances against Australia's pace attack - led by Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson - and a year later helped Northamptonshire win our first major trophy, the Gillette Cup.

David was present at this year's Former Players' Day to celebrate the 40th anniversary along with five other members of the team - Peter Willey, Roy Virgin, Alan Hodgson, George Sharp and Sarfraz Nawaz.
