Richard Gleeson signs official contract

Richard Gleeson has signed a three-year deal with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club that will start next year.

Currently playing for the club across all three formats on an individual match deal basis, the right-arm medium fast bowler has made a huge impact to the games in which he has played. His economy rate in the NatWest T20 Blast this season is an outstanding 4.68; his last match on Friday evening against the Birmingham Bears resulted in bowling figures of 3 for 12 in just four overs making Richard one of the most exciting and successful white ball players this season. He has also made an impact in the Specsavers County Championship too securing 16 wickets in 8 matches including the of Alastair Cook.

Richard began playing for the second XI last year with outstanding match figures of 7 for 89 against MCC University team and 7 for 72 against the Derbyshire second XI. He made his first class debut for Northamptonshire in style against a touring Australia side last summer and sent both Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh back into the dressing room.

David Ripley, Head Coach, said “Richard’s bowling figures speak for themselves. He has made a huge impact on the games in which he has played. I believe there is a lot more to come from him and I am pleased he is going to be a more permanent part of our future. I would like to thank the Lancashire Cricket Board for allowing Richard the opportunity to play this summer and earn a contract.”

Commenting on his new contract, Richard said, “It’s great to become a more permanent part of the squad. I have enjoyed my games so far and I’m obviously pleased that I’ve made a positive impact. To be able to play and develop my cricket with the coaches and other players at Northamptonshire is such an exciting prospect and I hope we can carry on fighting hard and winning matches.”
