For the foreseeable future, the shop will be open from 2pm-10pm and on Matchdays.

Visitors will see some immediate outward differences between this new venture and previous incarnations, with feedback being addressed on issues like availability of stock and opening hours. The truly innovative difference between this and other Cricket Shops in Northamptonshire (and indeed the country), however, is the fact that this is the first to be run by a Cricket Board. While this may superficially seem like it will make little difference to consumers, as Northants Recreational Cricket’s Chairman David Hartley explains, it should bring huge benefits to both the consumers and the recreational game in Northamptonshire.

“The genesis of the idea came out of the fact that as the previous tenancy ended we were faced with the possibility of there not being a Cricket Shop at the County Ground at all, and we felt that this couldn’t be good thing for local cricketers, given a particular lack of dedicated cricket retailers in the town. Once somebody had brought up the idea of running it ourselves, we got attracted to the concept of establishing it as a shop run for the benefit of the game itself. For example, we are not going to be tied to a single brand, so you can come to us and look at a wide range of different equipment from different suppliers and can choose the one that suits you best. I think the most important point though, is that as a Community Interest Company, any profit we make will be invested back into programs supporting the grassroots game”

The shop is managed and staffed by people with a background in cricket rather than retail, and this reflects our desire to create a relationship with local cricketers and cricket clubs. Staff will always be on hand to assist with any enquiries, and they will be innately aware of the needs of cricketers and cricket enthusiasts.

Partnerships are already in place sees the shop stocking top brand equipment and clothing from, Kookaburra, Gray Nicholls, SM, Hunts County, Heather Knight, Shrey, Masuri, Icon and Blueroom amongst others, as well as a large range of coaching aids including the Heater Slider bowling machine.

Visitors to the County Ground will be pleased to discover that Coffee and Tea are available from the shop, as well as confectionary and crisps.
