When Saif took the field for Northamptonshire in their non-first-class fixture at Durham UCCE in May 2014 he became the first 15-year-old ever to represent the County’s first-team – underlining his precocious talent and enormous potential as batsman and left-arm spinner. The club offered the youngster from High Wycombe a three-year professional contract, and the following winter he showed impressive form for England Under-17s in Dubai before making his first-class debut against Kent in August 2015 – just six weeks after his 17th birthday. Selected for three Championship matches in 2016, he hit an unbeaten 65 at Swansea and claimed 5-148 from a marathon 26 overs against Leicestershire. In 2017 he furthered his cricketing education with five appearances in the T20 Blast.
