An active club cricketer in Northamptonshire for many years – representing the County Colts side in the early-1980s – Phil subsequently combined his involvement in the game with senior managerial roles in the financial services industry. Initially recruited to work with Northamptonshire’s age-group squads on a part time basis, Phil made the big move to take up a full time coaching role in 2005. In 2012 he qualified as a Level Four ‘Master’ coach incorporating a postgraduate diploma.  The same year saw him take charge of the Second XI and Academy at Wantage Road, and with increasing time spent supporting 1^st XI Players, Phil was appointed Assistant 1^st XI Coach in January 2018 – whilst retaining his responsibility for some bowling  across the club - he remains strongly committed to developing the County players of the future.
