As one of the club’s all-time greats, David needs little introduction to Northamptonshire supporters as he returns to Wantage Road in the role of batting coach. He made over 20,000 runs for the club in all competitions – including eight first-class innings over 200 (one of them on debut in 1996) – and captained the County between 2004 and 2007. He achieved international recognition at Under-19s and A-team level, but many good judges would still maintain he was desperately unlucky not to have represented England in Test cricket. After retiring from the county game in 2014 he worked with young cricketers at Wellingborough School and re-joined NCCC in a part-time coaching capacity during the 2017 season. He now has the job full-time and will bring his expertise and experience to bear on developing batsmen throughout the club.
