The Steelbacks host Derbyshire today in the Royal London One-Day Cup and will be hoping the match is unaffected by the weather, as they aim to reach the quarter final stages of the competition.
These two teams are currently both sitting on four points, knowing a win could potentially move them into a much sought after top four spot.
The Steelbacks’ last two games in the competition have both been affected by the weather. The Hampshire match was abandoned before the second innings could begin, whilst the away game against Leicestershire faced the same fate without a ball being bowled.
Derbyshire’s last game was also abandoned. On Thursday they hosted Lancashire, the visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. On what was a good wicket, the Lancashire batsman really enjoyed themselves in the middle, as four of them made half centuries, helping the team finish on 300/8. Derbyshire really struggled in reply, despite a 49 and 47 from Wayne Madsen and Alex Hughes, the hosts were bowled out for just 199, losing by 101 runs.
One to Watch
Wayne Madsen is undoubtedly Derbyshire’s star as well as captain. This year he is averaging an amazing 146, thanks to two centuries against Hampshire and Leicestershire. With the ball, Tony Palladino and Mark Footitt have been the stand out bowlers taking 8 and 10 wickets, whilst averaging 18.25 and 23.9 respectively.
David Ripley has named an unchanged squad for today’s game.
