Bavuma Posts Half Century as Match Drawn

Temba Bavuma reached his first half century for Northamptonshire with handshakes ending the rain-affected match in a draw.

Matt Coles and Ben Sanderson did well to polish off the Leicestershire tail quickly in the morning to ensure a first innings lead for the hosts. Coles striking twice in each of his first two overs having been thrown the ball straight away, first getting Lewis Hill caught behind and then Chris Wright leg before wicket. Leicestershire survived a frustrating 8.5 overs with numbers 10 and 11 at the crease until Coles himself took a screamer to end the innings. The loanee diving full length to his right to catch Muhammad Abbas at fourth slip off the bowling of Ben Sanderson.

The new ball swung for the visitors with Abbas dismissing Rob Newton early in the piece. Alex Wakely continued his good form from the first innings before he was trapped in front by the Pakistan international for 46. Temba Bavuma was the standout performer of the second innings with a classy 68 from 127 deliveries. Starting off watchfully before accelerating with an entertaining partnership of 57 in 66 balls alongside skipper Adam Rossington. Rossington and Bavuma fell in quick succession however, with the captain stumped and Bavuma caught on the square leg boundary.

Brett Hutton and Luke Procter both looked comfortable in the middle, adding 40 for the 7th wicket before handshakes in the middle shortly before 5 saw both sides leave with 10 points. Northamptonshire now head to Sussex, still looking for their first win of the competition.

Northamptonshire 299 (Wakely 65, Rossington 45) & Northamptonshire 206/6 (Bavuma 68, Wakely 46)

Leicestershire 293 (Coles 3-51, Sanderson 3-64)
